This is a new service being offered in our recently opened molecular biology lab, April 2025!🎉

Methodologies for species identification

Welcome to our eDNA service! Please, contact us for more information and to provide you with a quote meeting your project needs. We will be more than happy to help you and collaborate.

Important Facts:

What are some of the most popular and high aquatic impact invasive species?

Zebra mussel (Dreissena polymorpha)

Quagga mussel (Dreissena bugensis)

Bythotrephes longimanus (Spiny waterflea)

Bythotrephes cederstroemi (Spiny waterflea)

What other species can be identified and the options for methodology?

We can detect other species including those in the Ontario Invasive Species Act and Federal Invasive Species Regulations, and perform eDNA analysis customized for your  project by using qPCR and/or metabarcoding (up to 60 target species/sample).

You also have the option to combine services like microscopy and eDNA for more accurate results in certain cases, and depending on your project needs/budget.

What are the options for sending samples to the lab for analysis?

For eDNA analysis you may send samples preserved in ethanol 95%

Type of samples:

Water,

Plankton,

Individuals of the suspected species or parts,

Sediment

You also have the option to send filters or we can do the sampling for you on site.

*Please contact us for other type of samples, questions, and a quote customized to your project
